Kay Steffey Bouchard at Quinta do Tedo in the Douro Valley writes an interesting blog about the life and the work at the quinta (the winery and vineyard) run by herself and her French husband Vincent Bouchard. Recently she shared with her readers her “addiction” to walking and she suggests a 5 hour walk in Oporto. This walk includes some lovely views of the Atlantic Ocean, museums, trams, cafés and restaurants. Kay’s Blog article is here: Oporto with comfortable shoes. And for the winery: Quinta do Tedo.
We agree that Oporto (or Porto if you prefer) is a fantastic city to discover on foot and wherever you go, a glass of port is never far away.
If you feel like doing some more walking, we suggest you cross the river and continue in Vila Nova de Gaia. Here all the famous port wine houses have their warehouses, their lodges, and offices. Along the newly refurbished quayside you will find bars, restaurants and outdoor cafés. And a superb view of Oporto on the other side of the Douro River.
Kay and Vincent bought Quinta do Tedo in 1992 and they make a very interesting and high quality collection of red wines and port wines.
Here are some pictures from Quinta do Tedo and from Porto.
Makes you want to go there? Come with us on a wine tour to the Douro Valley. I’m sure we can fit in one of Kay’s 5 hour walks if you want!
