Florence is today the undisputed wine capital of Tuscany. It is in the heart of the Chianti wine region, as well as of Tuscany, and it is the perfect starting point to explore the wineries and the wine regions.
Here is what Asa Johansson says about the city, her adopted city, in the introduction to her article on Florence:
Even after twelve years I am still stunned by the Florentine beauty. Luckily you never get used to it. Another thing that I really like about the city, since I’m a wine lover, is that all roads from Florence lead to a winery. Take a road you don’t know and you can be sure that at the end of the day you’ll be sipping wine somewhere in the countryside. So I guess calling Florence a wine capital isn’t exaggerated.
Read all of Asa’s article here: Florence, a capital of wine and food.
But when you do come to Florence, please do not just go to the Uffici, the Duomo, and the Ponte Vecchio (you will be sure to bump into your friends from home in those places). Do stroll around on the small streets and the back-alleys, go to a humble wine bar or simple pizzeria. You will get a totally different feeling for the city if you spend a little time on foot exploring.
Here are a few pictures for inspiration.

All the photos on this page were taken at one of our wine tours to Tuscany. It is all our own original photography. We came home with quite a few pictures.
